Anyway, that night after dinner, as he closed the door, she slumped against him and began quietly crying. He wrapped his arms around her plump body and pulled her to him. Her head rested against his chest. He could feel her large tits pressing into his chest through her thin white saree and blouse. His own tears weren’t coming. Even though he wasn’t feeling terribly strong, he knew strength was what his mother-in-law needed at the moment. So, stiff upper lip and all that.
“Maa, I’ll always be here for you. Moreover, your daughter and grandchildren will also be with you, so don’t worry,” he tried to calm down her stress. “I know it’ll be hard loosing my Sasurmosai ( Father-in-law ) who loved you so much but we all can get through this.”
“I know, Subha, but you have your own life, family and office. Often I feel ashamed to disturb your personal life, please I’ll manage.”
“Don’t say this, Maa. You know how much I respect you and I always want to see you happy,” he said wiping her tears with his fingers and hugged her tightly. Finally, it was just Subhamoy and his mother-in-law Satyaboti, and they were both beat. They climbed the stairs, headed to the guestroom.
“I know this will sound silly, but I don’t think I can sleep alone tonight, either. Will you share the bed with me, please? Maybe hold me if I need to cry?” She chuckled at this last statement. It maybe the only time he’d seen her smile all day.
“Of course Maa. Whatever you need from me, just ask. Let me get changed, and I’ll open the door when I’m decent.”
He then quickly got changed into a Pyjama, keeping the same Punjabi on. By the time he was done, his mother-in-law was waiting in the guest room in a Maxi. They climbed in on opposite sides of the queen size bed, and lay facing each other. He reached back and turned off the lamp on the night stand.
A couple of minutes passed, and she started to cry again, and whispered to him, “What am I going to do without your father-in-law in the bed?”
“Maa, you’ve filled my mother’s vacancy after her death and as a son-in-law I think I should comply my duty in this crucial period,” his eyes moistened as he pulled her close to him. He let her cry into his chest once more pressing as he caressed her back, as he thought of how to answer her.
Finally, he said all he could think of, which was, “You’re going to do what he would have wanted for you. You’re going to survive this, grieve, then you’re going to find ways to be happy even while you still miss him.”
Hearing such type of sympathetic and consoling assurance from his loving son-in-law, Satyaboti was melted as she looked at his face with a new hope. Those slowed her tears as she hugged her son-in-law, keeping her head on his chest, and they gradually stopped. “Thank you, Subha. I love you. I’ll get through this and I must have to survive for my two children.”
“Yes Maa, you know how much they love you. Try and sleep.” He continued holding her the whole night; caressing her back and pressing his crotch on his swollen mound, in case she woke scared or crying again.
