“My dare to Vivek. Same family. Mouth. If he turns to stone I win anyway.”
Vivek: “Akriti—”
“Truth or dare. You said you would play.”
“Dare.”
She kissed him. Less careful than Sonam. A short, stunned, real kiss that made Vivek’s fingers curl in the sheet. When it broke, Akriti looked angry at her own mouth.
“Don’t narrate it.”
Puja exhaled.
“Fine. Then nobody gets to stay holy.” She looked at Sanjay. “Dare, Bhaiya. Kiss me properly. Not a cheek. If this game is going to the place it’s going, we don’t pretend I’m only a referee.”
Sanjay waited until she nodded a second time. Then he kissed her. Slow. The room watched. Sonam’s thigh stayed against Raja’s. Akriti’s shoulder stayed against Vivek’s knee.
When they parted, Akriti said, almost cheerful,
“Undressing starts small or I will chicken out and pick a fight instead. Next dare can be a shirt or nothing. Your mouth, your choice.”
The bottle pointed at Raja.
Sonam: “Dare. Shirt off.”
Raja pulled his T-shirt over his head. The flat’s tube light made last night less of a rumour. Sonam looked and did not pretend she wasn’t looking.
Vivek’s dare from Akriti was the same. Shirt off. Akriti muttered, “School science lab se yeh body nahi thi,” and then told him to shut up before he answered.
Sanjay took his shirt off on a dare from Puja without being asked twice.
Then Sonam took a dare from Raja, jaw set.
“You want even, Bhaiya? Fine. Kurta.” She lifted it off. Camisole underneath. The laundry basket under the bed suddenly felt like a witness. Raja looked at her face first, then failed, then looked at her face again.
Akriti went next on her own mouth.
“Don’t even spin. Dare I give myself. Top off. Sports bra stays. I’m not doing a show for free, I’m doing a game I started.”
She pulled the tee away. Scar. Straps. Vivek stared at his own hands until she said, “You can look. Looking is in the rules now. Touching is still ask.”
Confession mixed in because someone had to breathe.
Puja, truth, no spin needed: “I wanted them last night. Not only the money. That’s the part that makes me the worst person in this circle.”
Sonam, truth: “I imagined Raja when I shouldn’t have, years before a booking existed. I’m not proud. I’m also not going to lie after I put my mouth on him.”
Akriti, truth: “I opened that clip twice. Second time was not anger.”
The next dares got closer.
Kiss Akriti’s shoulder.
Kiss Sonam’s jaw.
Puja in Sanjay’s lap, clothes still on from the waist down, his hands on her waist only because she put them there.
Sonam telling Raja, “Dare. Kiss me again. Longer. If I push you, you stop.” He did. She did not push.
Vivek whispering, “Akriti, can I,” and Akriti saying, “Mouth. Not hands under. Yet.”
Shirts on the floor. Cold drink forgotten. The bolt still on. The evening that had begun as rent and trains leaning, inch by inch, into a game that used the word dare so nobody had to say I want you first.
Puja looked at the circle, at three bare chests, at two sisters in underlayers, at Sanjay’s mouth still close to hers.
“Last rule,” she said, hoarse. “If this stops being a game and becomes last night, somebody has to say the sentence out loud. Until then, spin. Confess. Undress what you dare. Kiss who you named. And if Bhaiya starts to mean something we can’t take back, we don’t pretend we didn’t see it coming.”
