Sibling Secrets: Chandigarh Nights

And then… a moment was shared…

“Palat!” they both whispered loudly together. They both turned their heads to look at each other instantly.

“Palat… palat… palat…” they quoted at the exact same time, wide, genuine grins breaking across their faces.

By the time Shah Rukh Khan was feeding the pigeons in the mustard fields of Punjab, they were both layering loud laughter over the dialogue, completely lost in the innocent joy of the moment.

After they quieted down during a slower scene, Vyom smiled softly, turning his head toward his sister. “Tainu sach vich yeh movie bohot pasand hai na?”

She nodded, still grinning brightly at the screen. “Haan, bohot. It’s just… perfect. Funny hai. Smart hai. Romantic hai. Aur iske dialogues… It’s timeless. Perfect art wargi hai,” she said fondly, her voice soft and full of raw emotion.

Then, slowly, she looked away from the TV screen and turned her face to him. They held each other’s gaze in the dim light of the living room. Something was different. The air between them was cleaner now, free of the poison. It was almost as if they had gone back in time, back to an innocent age before puberty and wild hormones had made everything… weird, heavy, and forbidden.

“Main… main tera eh roop bada miss kardi si,” she said quietly, her soft voice almost lost under the background music of the film.

“Kya? Meri Bollywood knowledge?” He chuckled nervously, his heart beating a little faster in his chest.

“Nahi.” She shook her head a tiny bit, her hazel eyes searching his deeply. “Tera woh hissa jo apni ego chhod kar mere naal baithda hai. Jo mere naal is moment nu enjoy kar reha hai aur hass reha hai. Jivein hum pehle karde si.

He stared at her for a moment. A long, heavy moment. Too long. His dark eyes slowly traveled over her face. Her beautiful, glowing face with barely any makeup on. Her messy hair held up in a bun by a pink hair-tie after a long, exhausting day at the studio. That warm, deep sparkle in her hazel eyes that hinted at an emotion he couldn’t quite figure out just yet.

She was breathtakingly beautiful. She was… his elder sister.

Vyom swallowed hard, forcefully tearing his eyes away and staring blankly at the television screen. “Bas ek movie hi toh hai, yaar.” He shrugged, trying desperately to tease her and break the suffocating, heavy tension.

Her mouth fell open in a display of dramatic shock and horror at his casual brush-off. “Tu aidaan kivein bol sakda hai?! Wapas le apne words! Wapas le!” she cried, a bright hint of laughter in her voice as she closed her small fist and punched him hard in the arm.

“Aah! OW!” he howled playfully, rubbing his muscular shoulder where she had hit him. “Theek hai, theek hai, wapas leya! Tu sahi hai, it’s the perfect movie!” His wide grin returned, and he glanced at her, offering a quick, playful wink.

“Haan, ehi bolna chahida tainu,” she replied, her eyes narrowing to fake anger. But inside, her chest bloomed with an intense warmth. She was the happiest she could remember being in a very long time. And that sudden, boyish wink of his triggered something deep and terrifying inside her; an unfamiliar, fluttering feeling at the very edge of her mind that begged her not to explore it any further. ‘Nahi… is baare mat soch,’ her mind warned, her bare thighs clamping slightly together under the blanket.
