Her words felt like bullets piercing Kamal’s chest but he kept quiet not wanting to pickup another argument with her. Dada replied “ohh I would love that too Sabitri”. Sabitri was fully in the mood to piss Kamal off even more now.
Sabitri replied raising her eyebrows “Dada darling… Sabitri… really”? Dada understood her clue and said “sorry… sorry Baby… I didn’t mean to…” while looking at Kamal from the corner of his eyes. Kamal’s face went pale because it was the second time he was hearing someone call his wife Baby.
It also reminded him of Jitu and that sent a strong shiver down his spine. Dada wished Kamal good night and turned head towards the guest bedroom. Sabitri said “why that way Dada darling? My bedroom is this way”. Dada stopped abruptly and looked at her and then at Kamal.
Sabitri side hugged him again more intimately this time. She said “Dada darling you are going to spend the night with me in my bed… I am fed up sleeping alone every night…” while looking at Kamal. Kamal’s heart sank to the bottom of the ocean hearing this.
Kamal had no doubt what she meant now, first the darling word then Baby… And now spending the night together… Sabitri noticed the perplexed look on Dada’s face. She said “carry me Dada darling, let’s go to my bedroom…”.
Kamal’s eyes grew wide like saucers hearing this. She looked at Kamal and said “Kamal you have your keys, remember to lock all the doors properly on your way out…”. She turned to Dada who lifted her off the ground comfortably carrying her in his arms like she was a weightless doll.
Kamal recollected the day he got married to Sabitri and he was not able to take two steps past the main door carrying her. He ended up dropping Sabitri right at his doorstep despite she being only almost half as heavy as she was now.
Kamal came back to his senses when when Sabitri put her arm around Dada’s neck very intimately. She looked at Kamal and sarcastically said “Only real men deserve to be in my bed… and Dada is THE Husband which you never were or can be…”.
Kamal stood frozen boiling with rage but at the same time he felt defeated and guilty. Sabitri calling Dada who was her dad’s age as her husband in front of him was the last nail in his relationship. He realized Sabitri was too far gone… and probably never coming back… now he had lost her for good.
