Deepak pitched in saying “it’s okay Kamal, we are in no hurry and five minutes delay wouldn’t have made us rich or poor anyway”. Kamal was still fuming with anger and he pushed her aside making his way inside.
Sushil quietly went to his room while Deepak stayed with her at the door. Deepak shut the door and turned to her only to see her moistening eyes. Sabitri felt humiliated because other people passing by outside also saw Kamal yelling at her. Deepak softly said “Sabitri let’s go inside the house first”. She quietly followed him and locked the main door.
Just then Kamal came in after getting fresh. He again yelled “Sabitri get the snacks and tea ready and without any further delays or excuses this time” stressing sarcastically on the last words. Deepak already knew Sabitri was on the verge of tears due to the humiliation she had endured at the entrance.
Deepak was about to say something when Kamal cut him off saying “you please stop defending her Mr. Deepak. She has slackened off late so she had this coming”. Deepak put his foot down and said “that’s enough Kamal. You are making a mountain out of nothing. You are overreacting as if you would have become a millionaire in those five minutes”.
Kamal just walked off to the verandah while Deepak stayed and Sushil stared at everything happening. Sabitri composed herself and said “Sushil please use the backyard so Mr. Deepak can use the bathroom to get fresh”. She went to the kitchen to prepare tea and snacks without waiting for their answers.
Sabitri was craving for revenge after today’s incident because this was the last nail in the coffin of her relationship with Kamal. This was not the first time Kamal did this but this was the first time he did it in public. Despite Kamal’s impotence, she still loved him as a doting husband but now that was a thing of the past.
