“10-4 — alert sent out. Sit tight partner.”
After hearing my call to the station, the begging and pleading started, but I was unphased and made another call to Ellen Baker. Ellen was the lead reporter on WCAM TV, the local news station. Ellen had given me a lead on a case we were working several months back, and I owed her a story. This was going to be my repayment.
Knowing the entire squad would be coming to my rescue, Claire suddenly blurted out, “Please let us go, I’ll never do this again. At least let him go, and we can say that he got away. Nobody needs to find out about this.”
I just shook my head and ignored her pleas as I turned my back and stepped out of the room to make a call to Ellen’s cellphone. My name showed up on her phone and she quickly answered.
“Hi Carter, what’s up,” she answered.
“Ellen, there’s no time for small talk, I’m repaying my debt. Get a news crew over to my home asap — 158 Daniel Street. You don’t have much time, several cars are enroute. This could be your lead story tonight.” She disconnected and knowing Ellen, their crew would arrive shortly.
When I came back into the room, both of them started asking me to let them go. Wilbur started, “Carter, don’t do this, please. I have a wife and kids and this will destroy my career.”
“You think I give a shit about you or your fucking career? You just destroyed my marriage and family. You made a big mistake, Wilbur, and now you’re going to pay for this.”
“Come on man, it was just sex. She means nothing to me. Just take off the cuffs and let me leave before they arrive.”
I looked at Claire, “You see that Claire, you mean nothing to him. You’re just another easy fuck. You threw away everything for this limp dick. What the Hell is wrong with you?” I believe that was the moment she realized how badly she messed up as she just lowered her head, completely defeated.
Then I turned back to Wilbur, “Listen asshole, you just fucked my wife and ruined what I thought was a happy marriage. So, I suggest you don’t move and just keep your big mouth shut. Once my support arrives, I’ll hand you over to them and you can tell them your side of the story. After that, I don’t want to see or hear from you again, except at your trial.”
Of course, my wife spoke up, pleading for me to stop this. “Baby, please don’t do this. This is all my fault; you need to let him go. He has a wife and four kids and this will ruin his marriage. She will divorce him, she won’t understand.”
My laugh sounded evil as I said, “Well, because you couldn’t keep your legs closed, it looks like there will be two families destroyed. Besides, why should we be the only divorced couple today?”
Hearing the D word, Claire panicked. “No, sweetheart. This is just a big mistake. We can work this out, I don’t want a divorce. Oh God, Carter, don’t do this. You have to let me explain. You know that I love you.””
My face was stone cold when I replied, “You’re even more stupid than I imagined. You just fucked this asshole in my bed, and you just got out of the shower with him a few minutes ago, there’s nothing to explain. Just sit down and don’t talk until this is over. Not one word until I tell you.”
