I kept a sad face.
Rahul kept his hands on my cheeks and said “Lets listen to what he says and then you tell us what happened ok? You can catch his lies if he says it first”
I remained just like that.
Amit said “You believe her instead of your best friend?”
Rahul said “I am being fair alright? I am letting you explain first”
Rahul told me “Neha……don’t interrupt him ok? Stay calm and listen to what he says….ok?”
I said “fine” with reluctance.

Amit’s version of the story
Doctor called me from the hospital and told me to come urgently. She told me about Neha’s pregnancy issue and how Neha had a panic attack etc.
I immediately went to the hospital. It took me 45 minutes to reach there you know because of peak time traffic.
I went to Doctor’s cabin.
I asked “What’s the matter doctor…..what happened to Neha?”
She replied “It’s actually my fault. I will take responsibility”
I asked “What doctor?” in surprise.
She said “When I saw Neha’s report, I thought it’s unusual for 25 year old to have such a low egg count. However, I thought it was an exceptional case which I needed to study in depth. After meeting Neha and everything that happened. I also met another woman who was 32 years old and had unusually high egg count. She was exploring options of IVF, freezing eggs, surrogate mother etc. I couldn’t tell her anything because I knew that results were not right. This led me to think that reports might have got mixed up at the lab due to an error. So, after meeting her, I took a break and went to the lab to examine the results myself. I instructed people at lab to study these reports carefully. After an hour, they confirmed that reports got mixed up. I already informed this to our hospital team. This will be a big problem if not rectified now. They detected mix up of reports in another case as well. We found that one of the persons working in lab is under influence of alcohol. So, person who is responsible for these errors has resigned and left the job.”
She continued “We are extremely sorry Mr. Amit for all the things which happened. We regret the inconvenience caused to you”
I said “Thank god Doctor! At least you found the problem. I know it’s not your fault. I would like to thank you for rectifying this problem so early. Even though I don’t know you, I understand that you are bind by your ethics when you said you won’t share any information about Neha with me earlier.”
She continued “I apologize Mr. Amit.”
I said “Doctor…….where is Neha?”

She said “She had a panic attack after hearing what I said. I can understand why she felt like that. I didn’t wanted to wake her up until this issue was resolved. I can imagine what she went through this morning…..sorry Mr. Amit”
I said “Where is she? Doctor”
She replied “Room 104”
I said “ok doc……thanks for calling me and informing me about what happened”
She replied “Mr. Amit, we have waived off charges for all the tests she had here and we are also offering her 50% discount coupons which are valid for next 2 years up to 3 visits and 2 health checkups”
