Most of the time, good news carried some bad news with it… and Sreelekha was no exception. Along with the good news of her second pregnancy arrived a final reminder from the bank to clear her mortgage loan. The situation worsened further when she discovered her daughter’s depression, caused by her daughter’s dwindling career in her modeling job
Actually the Mitra Couple got into this financial difficulty a few years ago. Sreelekha had borrowed a lot and they spent too much over to the renovation of their house and the marriage of her only daughter Oishi. At that moment her husband was almost out of his film-shooting job. It was all very difficult and, as these things do, it affected their marriage profoundly.
While they kept their troubles from Oishi, her husband and she talked about little else…. driving out all playfulness, intimacy and, of course, sex from their life. For Sreelekha, the whole thing was undermining, emasculating…… all the cliches. She was meant to provide for the family, to take care of the money.
But it was she who took all the responsibility….. even holding down a modelling job, not getting a single chance in mainstream feature film. Over time her husband too lost touch with his friends as he became more focused on finding any type of private job.
Then one day they got the call they feared most…. a secretary from the bank phoned to set an appointment with the manager for the very next day. Her husband and she barely slept that night. They talked and talked about what they would say, how they would try to win over the manager, appealing to his sympathy.
In a way, Sreelekha was relieved when the manager introduced her to a famous Bollywood producer Mr. Shetty who would produce a special type of fun movie based solely on Bengali film actresses. Instantly she could see a way out from the serious financial crises she was facing, and it was all going to be faced, taken out of their hands, and dealt with, one way or another.
